Lizzie McKendry selected for Auckland under-20 team

Lizzie McKendry has been selected for the Auckland under-20 team to compete at the inter-provincial championships in Lake Ruataniwha on September 23.

Lizzie made the team after taking part in the Light Blues programme, a development programme for rowers and coxswains in year 12 of school in the Auckland region. The Light Blues held three development camps in Auckland between June and August during which the athletes trained and learned about high-performance rowing before a final selection was made. Competing in a quad at Lake Ruataniwha, Lizzie is one of 12 women to make the team. The otherboat is an eight.

This is Lizzie’s third year rowing for Takapuna Grammar School. In year 9 and 10 she represented the school in road cycling. Lizzie discovered she had made the Auckland squad during the Upper North Island Secondary Schools tournament in Hamilton where she was representing TGS in netball.
